Every six months someone publishes a salary survey that tells you the average UK AE earns £60k base. That number is largely useless — it blends bootstrapped startups in Leeds paying £38k with Series B fintechs in London paying £85k. What founders and hiring managers actually need is stage-and-location-specific data. Here's ours, drawn from live placements on our desk over the last 12 months.
This is the role with the widest variance. Stage matters more than anything else.
| Stage | Base | OTE | Split |
|---|---|---|---|
| Seed / pre-Series A | £40k–£55k | £70k–£100k | 50/50 – 60/40 |
| Series A | £55k–£75k | £110k–£150k | 50/50 |
| Series B | £70k–£90k | £140k–£190k | 50/50 |
| Series C+ | £80k–£110k | £160k–£220k | 50/50 – 60/40 |
London premium: expect to add 10–15% to the base figures above for candidates based in or commuting into London. Hybrid roles commanding London rates are now the norm — most candidates won't accept sub-£50k base regardless of OTE upside.
One thing we see consistently: candidates with a strong track record at a recognised SaaS brand (Salesforce, HubSpot, Outreach, Gong) command a 15–20% premium over market. That brand halo is real. Budget for it or you'll lose the best shortlists.
| Stage | Base | OTE |
|---|---|---|
| Seed | £28k–£35k | £40k–£50k |
| Series A | £30k–£38k | £45k–£55k |
| Series B+ | £35k–£45k | £55k–£75k |
SDR compensation has barely moved in three years despite inflation. The talent pool knows this. If you're in London and offering sub-£30k base for an SDR, you're competing against grad schemes at banks paying £32k guaranteed. You will struggle.
The equity conversation is increasingly relevant here too. Candidates below 28 are more equity-aware than any cohort we've placed in the last decade. A meaningful option grant can close a £3k–£4k base gap.
RevOps has matured quickly as a function. The days of "spreadsheet admin" are gone — good RevOps hires understand the full stack from CRM to forecasting to territory design.
| Level | Base |
|---|---|
| RevOps Analyst (1–3 yrs) | £38k–£55k |
| RevOps Manager (3–6 yrs) | £55k–£75k |
| Head of RevOps | £75k–£110k |
RevOps roles are typically base-heavy with modest or no variable. That's the norm. Candidates are more motivated by scope, tooling budget, and board visibility than OTE mechanics.
This is where the spread is enormous — and where founders consistently miscalibrate. A VP Sales who's run £5M ARR to £25M ARR at a Series B FinTech is a very different (and significantly more expensive) hire than a VP Sales who's never managed more than 3 reps.
| Profile | Base | OTE |
|---|---|---|
| First commercial leader (player-coach) | £80k–£110k | £140k–£180k |
| Series A VP Sales (team builder) | £110k–£140k | £180k–£250k |
| Series B VP Sales (scale) | £130k–£160k | £230k–£300k+ |
Most VP Sales hires at early stage also expect meaningful equity — typically 0.25%–0.75% depending on stage and dilution. This is a conversation to have early rather than late.
| Level | Base |
|---|---|
| CSM (2–4 yrs) | £40k–£60k |
| Senior CSM / Team Lead | £55k–£75k |
| Head of CS | £80k–£120k |
CS compensation is trending upward as NRR becomes a board-level metric. Companies that treat CS as reactive support pay less and get less. Companies that treat CS as a commercial function pay at the higher end and see better retention numbers.
These are medians drawn from real placements — not what candidates said they wanted, not what LinkedIn surveys collect. The market moves fast. If you're budgeting for a hire that starts in Q3, assume you need to add 5–8% to numbers from six months ago.
If your package isn't competitive, the best candidates won't get as far as an interview. Get the numbers right before the brief goes live.
We'll tell you exactly what to budget — no charge, no obligation.
